The car was Authenticated, with the words, "Holy #uck", when Lewis saw it in the Moorabbin workshop.,he recognised it immediately. He was tipped by a potential buyer that same day, Peter Chapman from Yeppon, who had heard about it. Peter wanted it "Checked". Lewis did more than that, he Gazumped Peter Brocks long time mate, Peter Chapman, and bought it. The deal took about 2 hours tops. Moral there somewhere.! Peter Chapman thought that the SELLER sH@T on him, but that was farther from the truth. The seller and Peter were in the Ballarat Hot Rod club, to-gether, late 1959 onwards. Peter Brock still had the Radiator Cowl, word was, that he was going to try and rebuild his car again, using that bit at least. This was just prior to his unfortunate death. John Needham had the rest at his workshop in Wren Rd. I had seen it there myself over the last 20 years. It is a good story. It had no brakes because, with the diff and springs turned upside down, it was not readily able to have the brakes working. So Peter Brock left it as it was. Good to see it in Australia. |
