Comments: I had a Partial Pancreatectomy for a benign IPMN in March 2009. I had suffered w/ Pancreatitis intermittantly for >10 years (every 1-3 yrs).

My original work up for the pancreatitis indicated that it was caused by Pancreatic Divisum. I was struck w/ Pancreatitis once again @ the end of 2008. A spot was seen on the CT scan. An MRI F/U confirmed the IPMN mass. A few weeks later an Endoscopic Ultrasound was done w/ a punch biopsy. The histological report showed that the neoplasm was benign. That report provided my Dr. the time to research options other than a Total Pancreatectomy. The Pancreatic Divisum caused the neoplasm to form in the "body" of the organ (avoiding the Whipple). The Surgeon was able to preserve the head and some of the tail (aprox.20-30% of the pancreas). My post-op course was uneventfull.

Currently I am living w/ type 2 DM (I am overweight, but working to decrease the load). My I&O has been otherwise normal. I do not suffer GI dumping. My Insulin coverage is 10U Lantus BID & PRN coverage w/ Novolog. My activity is normal. I will be having a f/u MRI in March.

Comments: My Dad died of pancreatic cancer in 2006 after a nine month battle. He was only 58.I miss him dearly. My prayers go out to all people and their families who are suffering from this.
