Hi. Stuart Jewett here in little ole Van Wert, Ohio. I hope the world is treating well. Hey I just wanted to let The Blues world know about a blues concert in Van Wert Ohio on June 6th. And I am also hoping that maybe you can help me get the word out.
Van Wert was once known as the peony capital of the world and until sometime in the 50s always had a large festival. That festival came back to Van Wert in the 90s and is now holding a jazz & Blues Concert on Saturday June 6th.
Opening band, local Van Wert band The Dogz will begin at 7pm in the Van Wert County Fairgrounds. The Dogz, lead by long time guitarist Mike Sowers is a lues based rock band. When Mike breaks into Red House Over Yonder, look out. This guy has got the soul to let the music out. The Dogz are a 3 piece band with bassist Dave Smith, Drummer Todd Williams, and guitarist/vocalist Mike Sowers. They alone are worth a road trip.
Headliners for the evening will be the Jon Justice Band. http://www.jonjustice.com/ This is a group of 24-25 year old kids that simply whale out on the Blues. They are all well trained and educated musicians that found blues was the right way to go. Being a blues player for the last 30 years myself, when I tell you these guys are as good as they get, it's not just coming from some yahoo that has found a new favorite band. These guys are bad to the bone. They won the Cincinnati Blues Challenge last year, and took 2nd at Memphis Blues Challenge nationally. They don't "look" like they would be badass blues players. But they will take you away. Definatly worth a road trip. If you or any other Blues & Jazz enthusiasts can make it, you'll be happy you did.
I'm working on camping in the fair grounds as an alternative to having to leave the beer tent with a buzz. So that may happen. But here is a link to Hotels, etc in the immediate area too. http://visitvanwert.org/
Hope to see some of you here. PLEASE help spread the word?
Van Wert County Fairgrounds is on the left at the south edge of the small town.
