Comments: of course I will remain anonymous, even though I despise this company, I have to have some sort of income until I find another job...... I agree a union won't really do much, but stand your ground!!! I would try a more legal route... Office Depot is on the books for falsifying information more than once or twice, wink wink

on another note, I don't know if it is done this way in your particular store, but toner is to be recycled in a box, usually this consists of an employee handling the "over-exposed" toner cartriges. Toner is highly toxic and carcinogenic....and they don't give us any protective gear to handle such material.....

best of luck to us all!!!!

Comments: ROCK ON, brothers and sisters. We spent over 18k at OD last year. We've used OD for over 20 years for our office supplies, yet when I saw that anti-union video they put out, we cut up our cards and will do business elsewhere until OD does the right thing.

Comments: Company's that do the wrong things consistently will not make it. Office Depot has made a lot of changes not in the favor of some employee positions. But with the need to survive. Right now not
even making any profit even with cutting
most of the employee benefits. This company needs outside help like now now
and fast because it simply cannot exists except to borrow against assets.
Really do not think that a union would matter a lot except if the company actually made a profit. Most stores are at 1 manager to 1.3 employees. Managers are the ones now doing all the work with just 1 cashier and maybe 1 copy and printer center person. Having a union with this company would not work
because it does not have a clear direction or have any profit.

Comments: Long, but worth reading.
I am writing anonymously because I fear reprisals from my store and district managers for my comments. I have been an Office Depot part time employee for two years now and I had grown accustoms to the idea that there is no future or purpose to staying with Office Depot. That was until today.
Recent policy changes, such as the new Holiday Pay and the use of Personal and Vacation Hours, has made me think of Unionizing when I would have never thought of it before. The vacation hour's policy change was bad and completely unfair. The policy did not affect the full time employees, only the part timers. Just a little dichotomy there.
The personal and vacation hour's policy was the last straw. This new policy states that we can no longer use our personal hours and vacation hours as we see fit. If we wish to use these hours we must take an entire week off and can only use up to 20 hours of vacation. I thought these hours were mine, just like the meager pay I earn, shouldn't I be allowed to use it as I see fit? When asked to see the policy I was told that I could not read the policy because I am only a part time employee. When I questioned one of my managers further I was told three things:
1. As a part timer I am guaranteed nothing. That management does not have to schedule me for any hours at all. That if I asked too many questions that no hours were a real possibility and I should think about what I say.
2. That if I didn't like the policy I would have to take it up with Office Depot Legal Department as this new policy comes from the HR department. Any questions would of course make their way back to the store manager, even if I did so anonymously.
3. That if I didn't like the policy and if I continued to question its validity, I should quit. That in today's economy there are many more people willing to take my job.
Just a couple of questions:
Has anyone else heard of this policy? Is that the way for a manager to make an employee feel valued? What about the open door policy they talk about in the video? I tried contacting the tip line, but of course HR never returned my call. I really am an employee. We work every day in a hostile work environment and we work every day with the threat of loosing hours or your job if you speak up.
One last thing:
Your website does not have, or the information is not conspicuous enough; contact information to find out more about the union and how we can begin this in our own town. The funny thing is that if it weren't for the video Office Depot forced me to watch I would have never known about the unionization.
