I was at Dau Tieng for what might be called the first battle of Dau Tieng (Tet Offensive Jan-Feb l968. Mostly a lot of incoming rockets, mortars, and sniper fire, and an blown up bridge access to Dau Tieng Base Camp by road. Received a lot of air support C135's for several weeks till the bridge was repaired. Satchel Charges I believe. Sustained a two hour barage of mortar fire prior to tet that hit or distroyed all choppers (21 I believe) lined up at the airstrip. After that, choppers were spread out thoughout the base camp. |
