My great-grandfather Private Sampson Orender (Arender) 1827 - 1919 served as a stretcher bearer in G Company of the 46th Mississippi Infantry Regiment which was formed in Smith County, MS. According to family lore, Sampson received a letter of bravery from a Captain Sears for his actions on the Jackson Road from May 20 to May 27, 1863 during the Siege of Vicksburg.
