Thank you so much for this down to earth and very practical [also with tongue in cheek] overview of all things Thailand. I found it sooo much better than the others. Having not been to Thailand before there is so much valuable info for me. I go in two weeks and am even more excited now.
Keep up the good work Russ.
Regards, Gaille.

I first came across your web site some six or seven years ago, not long after I first started going to Thailand. Anyway, the site disappeared but I've recently found its new domain and it's back on my favourites. The website is still great for the first timers but it doesn't seem to have changed much in all that time. For example, I was looking at the section on women travellers. I think things have changed more than a little in that respect in the time I have been travelling (frequently) to Thailand. For example, you quote the guidebooks but this is what the Foreign & Commonwealth office currently advises:
"We continue to receive reports of sexual offences committed against foreign women and men. In January 2006, three British women were raped in separate incidents in Thailand, including one who was murdered. Female travellers in particular should maintain a high state of personal awareness during their time in Thailand."
This obviously conflicts with the rosy guidebook stuff and complacency of the long time visitor (such as me). Even if you don't want to be explicitly negative, I think a link to the FCO web site: www.fco.gov.uk would be a good addition to the site as there is lots of other good stuff on there too. This includes advice on the changing political situation with regard to travel to the four southernmost provinces. Most people wouldn't think to look at the FCO website unless they find a link to it on a site like yours. By the way, I don't work for the FCO!
Of course, your site is still one of the best introductory sites for Thailand but I feel it could do with a little update in certain areas.
I hope this is constructive!
