Comments: Talking of 'waves of nostralia' and 'Harry Beale'; today (5 Feb)is my 75th birthday, born at Westminster Hospital (now called something else) on S.W. corner Lincoln's Inn Fields, opp The Old Curiosity Shop, the 5th child of a mother who didn't want me, and a father she didn't identify on the birth cert.
Aged 3 1/2 'adopted' by my foster mother, a 48-year-old widow. All ingredients there for creation of a weirdo adult had I not had the good fortune to attend S.C.D and have Harry B. as my tutor - the perfect father substitute for a desperately insecure and shy teenager. Thanks S.C.D. Thanks Harry.

In addition to being Art Master at SCD for 43 years Harry was part of a group of artists in Hampstead where he lived.
A book is now being written about this group and the author has been in touch with the school. I have been able to give him some info and also put him in contact with Harry's daughter. If however any OD's have any stories or examples of Harry's work that could be photographed I would be pleased to know so they can be passed on.

Just visiting the UK to sort out my pension. Got snowed in, so thought I'd catch up on ODA gossip. Sorry to learn of Derek Channing's death. I remember him well. A very active member of the model flying club along with Ricky Page and David Shearman, circa 1958.
