Comments: One of my students took a picture of your father's headstone at Arlington, and I wanted to know more about the man that received the Medal of Honor. It was a honor reading and learning more about such a brave man and dedicated soldier.

Comments: Dear Ms. Monahan,

My family and I were at the Arlington National Cemetery a few weeks ago and saw the grave of SSgt. William Windich. This country is the best in the world because of people like him. We appreciate his sacrifice for our country. I hope you and your family had a good memorial day. You are all in our prayers.

Sincerely,

Mat and Victoria Vasquez

Comments: Lisa and I just finished a vacation to Washington, DC. Our first stop was Arlington National Cemetery. While walking up one of the roads I came across a gravestone of Staff Sergeant William G. Windrich, USMC. What made his gravestone standout from the thousands in the area was the markings. As I approached I notice the Medal of Honor designation.

I wondered what it was that he had done to win our nation’s highest military honor 57 years ago, and took the attached picture so I could do some research into this Marine. Here is information on Staff Sergeant Windrich, provided by his daughter, that I know you will find interesting.

Arlington is truly a special hallowed and historical place for all the reasons you already know. In addition to Presidents, astronauts, and the Tomb of the Unknowns there are tens of thousands of stories of service to and sacrifice for our country.
One of these stories is that of Staff Sergeant William G. Windrich, USMC.
