I have just had my lower braces fitted this morning and i am feeling very "ulgy betty" as my mouth feels full of metal(top braces were fitted several months ago). Eating is going to be even more of a nightmare now!I think this is going to be the longest year of my life - still it will be worth it. My husband is very encouraging but i pity him having to look at me over the next few months. I didn't think this would knock my confidence as much as it has. I think i will have to make more of an effort with makeup to detract attention from my mouth. I see so few other adults with braces that it is a comfort to know there are fellow suffers out there who understand what it feels like.

I just got my braces yesterday, ceramic top and bottom...they are so uncomfortable! And my lips look funny as it pushes them out quite abit! I have to have them for 2 years which seems like forever!

I got my braces in November 2006, and expect to have them in my life for 18-24 months. I am so impressed with the way they have improved my smile already, but am very much counting down those months to be brace free. Its all worth it!

I am a 37 year old mother of two boys, 10 and 12. I am a sixth grade teacher, as well. My students had quite a laugh when I first came to school with my braces on April 19, 2007. My orthodontist says I will be in the braces for 18 to 24 months. I've already noticed dramatic changes and CANNOT wait to be able to smile without being self-conscious of my braces and my overbite. This website is fantastic and has been so informational.
