Comments: There's not much information about adults with cleft lips. It's nice to read about your experiences. Your stories help normalize my experiences. I was also born with a cleft lip. I'm 34 and still notice being reacted to differently than others. Reading Nietzsche has been a great way to learn about myself and gain a better understanding of humanity. As you have probably guessed I'm not MR either although my intelligence was questioned when I was younger based on my cleft and not my ability. Nietzsche wished illness and tragedy on his friends and family because he believed this was the only way people could truely learn and grow was by living with tragedy and overcoming it. I believe being born with a cleft lip has allowed us to see and understand humanity a way that is foriegn to most. I think we are able to see how petty most people really are and how society focuses on and prizes things that really has no substance. Good luck with everything...

Comments: It's a shame, isn't it, that people don't understand cleft palates? I had a hard childhood because of it and noticed that even as an adult, it's humiliating to have people just speak their mind about my looks. They use my birth defect as a weapon against me.
