Comments: Landed on this site and saw all the messages about searching for relatives, so I thought I'd add mine. My greatgrandmother, Mary Ellen Hayes, lived in the Carrick area between the 1830s and 1850s. She married a Felix Morgan around 1852, had a child who died, and they migrated to Australia in 1854, where they had six children. However, in 1864, Mary Ellen was back in Carrickbeg and gave birth to my grandfather Patrick Morgan. She left again in 1865 and never returned, dying in Melbourne in 1887. If anyone knows anything about the Morgan or Hayes families, I'd be most grateful if they would contact me.

Thanks for an interesting and informative web site.

Comments: Just taking a flyer on my search for the childhood home of my great-grandfather, Thomas Ryan, son of James and Mary Ryan. My search has taken me to Carrick-on-Suir, which I plan to visit within the year. Thomas, born in 1818 (+/- a year), emigrated to the U.S. in the early 1840's. He married Anne Fogarty in St. Louis, MO USA in October of 1855. Anne was a widow who retained her maiden name (Fogarty); she had married a William Ryan in 1853 in St. Louis and he died in 1854. He was NOT a brother to Thomas; his parents were Michael Ryan and Mary (Connelly).
Anne's mother was Ellen Shortal(Sergeant) (sp?) Fogarty. I don't know if Thomas had any brothers or sisters. I do know that Ryans, Fogartys, and Shortals (Shortall, Shortal, Shortle, Sergeants) lived in Carrick-on-Suir according to the Ancestry.com research that I have conducted thus far.
As I said, I'm taking a flyer with my inquiry to take advantage of the possibilities inherent in the An Caislean Bed and Breakfast guestbook. Any information anyone could provide is greatly appreciated. Also, if anyone knows of a local genealogist in Carrick, please forward that information to me.

Thank you,

Joseph Ryan

Comments: This is one of the best sites of its type you will find anywhere. I left Carrick in 1988 for London. Would be glad to hear from any old friends. I collect Sonny Cash Postcards and War Medals to men from Carrick and district and anyone who served in the Connaught Rangers. I send my regards and thanks to all the neighbours in Castle Park in particular who were so good to my mother and father Bernie and Gay Hynes in their final years.
