When/If you came out: June 2000
Your story: I have always known I was different, but I didn't know how. I knew that I was attracted to guys before I even knew what being gay meant. I was always nervous about how my family would feel. My mother is the only one in my family who knows, and she has been 110% supportive. I've been lucky to be surrounded by friends who always have a shoulder to rest on.
Words of encouragement: Whether you have come out or are still in the closet picking out clothes: The best feeling in the world is being honest with yourself and accepting yourself for who you are. Because once you have achieved this, there isn't any amount of hate, violence, or oppression that can hurt us.

When/If you came out: March 2003
Your story: I was making mashed potatoes one day, when my gay roommate walked in and grabbed my hands and started mashing potatoes with me. I knew he was joking, but I turned and kissed him. That night I confessed my homosexuality to him and the next day I told my family. I've never been happier.
Words of encouragement: It's okay. People will accept you. They will still love you as you are. My parents have been great. Just share the truth. It'll all be okay.
