Comments: Hey ;-)

very nice site with good photos and nice comments. keep on doing.

The STORY about this
"It is claimed that there are 2-3 sub-basements in the Building, below the main basement that have long been sealed and perhaps flooded. One report states that there is an underground tunnel running from the Building all the way to Frankfurt's Hauptbanhof (main train station)......"

it is true, but they closed these tunnels long time ago.

cheers rolf

Comments: Was stationed at Gibbs (HHC V Corps) from March 1968-Jan. 1970. Worked at Drivers testing (across from Plantation Club) for several months. Made Sp/5 & worked Arms room at Gibbs & IG Farben for 3 months. Then AG Unclassified Distribution Center in Farben Bldg. Loved my time there and have the best memories of this time.

Comments: I was stationed at the Farben Building from August 1973-March 1977. I was assigned initially to the computer site at the far end of the building in the basement. We had old punch card machines and a couple old IBM 1401's.

I later moved up to the Data Sytems Office just down from the Cantina. It was run by a older lady and her son Mike who was in his 20's. He drove a Datsun 240-260Z. We were close and he got me a couple of pair of shoes from a friend of his at the show factoey in Pirmasens.

Anyway I spent my whole tour up there on the 3rd floor and bar tended in the Keller Bar at the Terrace Club. On the day of the bombing I had taken the DSO's Major Glidden's secretary Fran to the PX. We stopped for lunch at the KFC across the street. So we missed the whole thing. As luck would have it I usually waited for my friend Ed (for lunch at the Rotunda) at the Amexco Office where one bomb went off. The other was in the club coat room and because of the trajectory destroyed the upstairs bar ( which was closed at lunch. Everyone was pretty fortunate.

The Farben was a great time I had a 350 Honda I rode to work and we drank some beer while I was there. While I had an apartment in Bornheim officially I was assigned to 3rd Support Command at Gibbs. They had great hamburger pizza's there and our First Sgt's name was Blackburn...a nice old Infantry guy sent to watch us computer guys due to his hearing issues.

I also remember the motor pool guys all ordering 900cc Kawasakis from the PX and having them delivered to Gibbs. Lot's of fun. Take care. Jay

Comments: am still trying to figure out what your connection is with the IG Farben building but, whatever, I was there in the mid 60's, living across the street in the Siegel BOQ area, and hanging out virtually every evening at the Officer's Club behind the main Farben Buildings itself. In fact, when I eventually married, we had our wedding reception on the second floor terrace of the Officers Club on June 10th 1967.

I don't know that this means anything to anybody else theses days but I could add a lot of other color and images to what the IG Farben building was in those mid 60's year, if you would like to have them, and am willing to to do so proving they will get up on your website.

Comments: I was stationed at the Farben Building from July 1963 through November 1964, assigned to the Frankfurt Station brand of the 513th Military Intelligence Group. Our offices were on the 7th floor on the end of the building nearest the Motor Pool (the opposite end was near an free-standing barber shop outside the main building).

I thoroughly enjoyed your article, for want of a better word. I did note the omission of any reference to the very large and diverse arboretum between the main building and the Casino. Each of the trees bore metal tags identifying its specie, propewr botanical name, etc. Walking through these trees to Motor Pool was in itself a course in botany.

This brought back a lot of emmories....
