My daughter was born with a unilateral cleft lip and a bilateral palate on October 3, 2007. Prior to her birth I was able to view images of children with similar clefts and saw the before and after photos. Her cleft was detected at the 20 weeks scan however they could tell me exactly what we were to expect (unilateral/ bilateral - lip and palaet) as every time we went for a scan her hands would be in front of her mouth. Not having a history of clefts in the family this was very informative and helpful. I have ordered feeding equipment and always received it a few days later which has been great as far as service goes. We have sent in our membership to Cleftpals. After having a child with a cleft it is amazing how many people you run in to that have had a cleft or know of some one how has a cleft. Last Saturday whilst having my daughters photo taken with santa a young man approached me - Brett - I wasn't sure who he was until he introduced himself and then mentioned he had a similar cleft as a child. This was great and furthermore I was amazed at how educated his small children were about clefts - this was a very nice surprise. Furthermore It was good to see in person how unnoticeable the cleft can be after the surgeries. Thank you |
