Comments: I have recently spent two months (from mid-July to mid-September) in Colchester. I came with zero knowledge of the place, where I had not a single acquaintance, let alone friend. And I left with many friends there and with the pleasantest memories of the town, as well as of Essex and Suffolk. I hope to be able to stay in Colchester many more summers.

I understand the actress Joan Hickson (Miss Marple) passed away in Colchester some years ago. Can anyone tell me if she resided in Colchester prior to her death? I can't seem to locate any information about her life, other than her filmography. Thank you!

Hi Denise,
It's difficult to suggest as everyone's idea of the ideal differs. However I now have several GoogleMap links on the site so you can see a birds-eye view of different areas. Personally I would probably say look at the West or South of Colchester.

Comments: We visited Colchester in Sept 2005. The oldest town in England is beautiful. Labor day weekend 2005 at the Colchester Castle they had an outside festival, with dancers & food/clothes venders. I recommend taking the Castle tour. We are going back in Sept 2010.

Comments: Just go back from a visit to Colchester lived there before migrating to Oz, so much has changed and yet it is still the same! I was sad to visit my old school The Gilberd ans see all the changes, Still consider my self and Essex girl after living in Australia for the past 40 years though.
