Comments: What a great website. My father was a fighter pilot onboard the Big E during the Battle of Guadalcanal. He would tell the most amazing stories. He was shot down over Guadalcanal and crashed into the side of a mountain. It took three days to be rescued. He broke every bone in his face and his back in 7 places. He spent the next year in a body cast he used to say that the beautiful nurses were the ony reason he made it :) Navy blood ran thru his veins until the day he died. I am so sad that he did not get the chance to meet his grandson. My son, now eight will tell anyone that is willing to listen that he is going to Annapolis so that he can be a pilot just like his "war hero" grandfather! GO NAVY!

Comments: My dad served on the Big E in WWII. He just passed away on June 22, 2009 and never discussed the war. His name was Joseph J. Goss of Lawler, Iowa and I would like to know if anyone knew him or if there are any pictures with him in them. Candid shots especially as we have none of him during that time. My nephew Nick Summers of Ankeny, Iowa is now serving on the new Big E which I thought was a huge tribute to my dad. Thank you.

Comments: I am currently working on a book about the U.S.S. Enterprise (CV-6)and I want it to be as personally executed as is humanly possible to honor the men who served aboard her. Anyone with any information, photographs they would be willing to copy and share (at my expense), war journals, personal histories, personal memories,... I don't want this to be JUST a book about the ship, but more about those who created the soul of her. Any help would be greatly appreciated and credited in the book itself. My hope is that proceeds and greater awareness would help to create a better memorial to his magnificent ship and her crews. Please help me do this. Sincerely, Mark W. Southard
