As a third child and writer who was born in early April I've always related to Mrs. Carey. She was a very decent person as well as an excellent writer. Her books were as delightful as they were educational.

I am so sad to hear of Ernestine Gilbreth Carey's passing. I have read both books at least 20 times since I was young and they are inspiring and funny every time I read them. I have recently added Lillian Gilbreth's memoir to my favorites list. I have such a soft spot in my heart for the entire extended family- what a wonderful history to share!

I was prvilieged enough to have Ernie as a friend for the last 15 years or so. She was an amazing woman who was a natural teacher. I have read both books to my students every year I have taught. I will miss you my dear friend, and love you forever. Kathy

To the Carey/Gilbreth Family,
My deepest sympathies on the loss of your mother. While surfing the net for information on management styles, the name 'Frank Gilbreth' popped up, and before I could follow the link I was flooded with fond memories of a book my 7th grade reading teacher made "required reaing," -- Cheaper by the Dozen. Ironically her name was Miss Carey, hmmm. Anyway, if there is such a thing as immortality it is the way Frank Gilbreth's lessons live on in me and my family. Not the least of which is the "efficient way" to take a shower -- which I unconsciously employ every day. I can't tell you how profoundly I was influenced by that book -- and how sad I am to learn of Earnestine's passing.
My best,
Ruth Ann Kordell (Peters)
