We just lost our beloved Amber, a red brindle greyhound of 13 years, who, because she was such a poor racer, we had had for 11 years (on hearing her story, I said, "My kind of athlete"!). She was such a wonderful dog that we will want to get another one. We'd like one 2 years or maybe 3 or under so we don't face another loss too soon. We're probably going to be looking in early July (after a trip to my mom's). We'd like to meet several so that one could pick us out if possible, as Amber did. I also am thinking male, large, white, since Amber was female, small, and dark, so I don't make too many comparisons. But mainly, we'd just like to adopt another former racer who needs a home. We have two cats who are accustomed to a greyhound in the house. We live in a 4 bedroom townhouse with one long flight of stairs to the bedrooms. Bert is retired and I do half my teaching at York on Internet so there is someone home nearly all the time. We also have a grown son living with us who also adored Amber, so any dog coming to live with us would not have any shortage of love, affection, attention, walks, runs in protected areas, and good food. |
