I'm applying for a Monroe Scholars' Grant from the College, which will allow me to conduct an original 7-week research project during the summer of 2007. As a French major and an organ student, I'd like to combine these two interests into a research project. I'm hoping to travel to France and study several historical organs in depth--observing their appearance, their role in the church, and especially their sound. Ideally, I'd love to have the opportunity to play and to hear others' play the organs, to study their sound and to have the incredible experience of playing classical pieces on the instruments for which they were composed. Also, since I'm conversant in French, I'd be comfortable living and working with the French people. I noticed that you have lived and worked in France, and I was wondering if you would have any information about people or places I could contact to find churches/organs to study in France. Do you know of any French organ guilds or organizations who would be willing to discuss my project with me? Are there any organ concert series or programs during the summer that I could attend? Is there an area in France that would be particularly appropriate for my study, or that would have a good place for me to stay?
