I stumbled across '84' while doing a search for something to read! It wasn't available at our library, so I place a hold on it. After a YEAR of being on hold, I spoke to the librarian who informed me that the library didn't own it. So why was it in their catalog? No one knew. At any rate, the librarian obtained it for me through inter-library loan and I devoured it. I am so appreciative of your website because I am wildly interested in HH and couldn't find very much information about her. So, your site is wonderful! As an American who has been to NYC many times, I can just imagine how much fun you had! Favourite HH book or quote? I love both '84' and Duchess. But also adore Q and Apple of my Eye. Any other comments: I know little about her, provided I read only 84 Charing... and attended the movie on the big screen and lots of time more on VHS and DVD. I visited London recently for the first time and had the oportunity to go to 84 Charing Cross Road where there is a plaque informing that since the numbering of the road has been changed some time ago. It was sad to find a restaurant there and not a book shop. I think some things should not change, but we cannot control it, can we? I hope I can go visiting London again sometime next year and I would like to know what places did Helene Hanff visit when she first came.
