Comments: As much as I hate to send my baby off to a kennel, there are times I have to. For the holidays I send my baby to Heartland Dog Care Center in Marion Indiana. The number is (765) 384-4314. It was by chance that I came across this place around 2 years ago. The owners are very loving and very trust worthy. Most of my family members in Indiana does not like for me to bring Maggie to their homes and when we are living out of a suitcase for 1-2 weeks it is very hard on her. I feel more confident leaving her with Heartland. They also do training and grooming. They work with us when we are in town, and are very reasonibly priced at $11.00 a day. I sent my baby to a "resort" in Hudson, Ohio when my husband took my son and me to Niagra Falls. This place was unbelieveable. It WAS too good to be true. When she came home her coat just looked so dull, her eyes were so red, she seemed like she was dying in there. We noticed so many things and the worst was her tail. She had been bit by another dog. She was in heat at the time also. This place denied everything also tried telling me it was from "happy tail". My Maggie's tail is docked at 6" standard for a weim. I understand "happy tail" is the term used for dogs with long tails that wag up against fencing and walls. I have seen what that does to dogs like labs and great danes. It does not cause puncture wounds, more like scratches. This place is called the Chalet. I would never do that to my baby again.

Comments: I added this page to my favorites list about 2-3 years ago. I tell everyone to read this. It is a very sad but true story. I have seen grown men cry after reading this story. My husband, who never cries and is a marine, was broken to peices after reading this. I have a weimaraner named Maggie; she is my little girl. I had a male weim. named Silver and he did come from a puppymill. He was a great dog. He had a patch of missing hair on his left shoulder with a scar that was said to be from the mother after he was born. I fell in love with him the moment I saw him. He was tramatized from that for a long time. Then at around a year and a half old he started getting very violent. We had to give him to an older man with a farm. It was one of the hardest things I've ever done. I just couldn't put him down. He attacked my son who was at the time 5 years old. He had been getting very violent with our other dog Maggie. Our vet told us it most likely had to do with the way he was treated til he was 3 months old. We did a lot of research on the kennel that he came from in Indiana. We found out that it was a horrible place and they were breeding their female pups with the father. It scares me to think of all the dogs they had and were selling. We plan on having a litter of puppies within the next year. Maggie will be three on April 13th. We are trying to find a good sire. We have people that have been waiting for her pups. We aren't looking to profit from these puppies. The plan was to brake even, so people can enjoy the breed with out have to spend thousands. They are a great breed of dog. We don't hunt or show our dog. She is just a part of our family. If anyone knows of reputable stud services, could you let me know? We have talked to vets and have not been able to locate a clean and trusting stud service. We were hoping to do it the old fashioned way as long as there are no worries. If that is not possible we are going to have our vet do it.

Comments: I find puppy mills to be the most appalling industry to be allowed to exist. It's only too bad that our state representatives and lawmakers take so little interest in this topic. Upon writing to Mark Souder about this issue, I receive only patronizing replies to the effect of he doesn't find it an important matter.
