I absolutely love this story and I must respectfully disagree with Mary on two points. Point #1: Because "Loch Lomond" is essentially a sequal to "The Highland Fling Murders," I do not believe that the B plot (Jessica and George's relationship) overshadowed the mystery. After all, "The Highland Fling Murders" certainly made their relationship a primary focus of the original story. Point #2 I don't know how anyone could misinterpret Jessica and George literally and innocently sleeping together in front of the fireplace as the two of them having sex. I think that the author likely went to a great deal of work to make it clear that there was no sex. In my opinion, if George had not stayed with her in front of the fire, to comfort and to protect her, I would think a great deal less of his character. I think that the author did a fabulous job of showing how much of a gentleman George really is, and just how much he respects Jessica. He set aside his own desires in order to keep her safe and warm and while comforting and soothing her. What more could you ask? This story and this scene in particular were PERFECT! |
