We love this website. It has been very helpful for our members. Also, our members tell us that our website is the best place for veterans to find information about compensation, pension and benefits for veterans. We have been told that VSOs now recommend that veterans visit our website first before filing a claim. Comments: Happy New Year to my fellow shipmates. I was onboard the Chi 05-75 till 12-79 in Eng B-Div. down in #1 fireroom. I was on the Austrialia tour and at that time I was in one of the ship's band as the bass player. I remember playing during the refueling and had a battle of the bands with the Austrailian band on a flattop of theirs. I made it through 3 westpac's during my time with lots of good and bad times that had help me through my life here in Alaska. If it wasn't for the rough seas that we sailed, I've woulden't have made it throught the Bering Crab seasons as a cook/deckhand on a Crab fishing boat. And all of those ports of call with all the party treats keep me in line after I left the sailor life. Now I'm very involved with the American Legion helping our vet's and the their families who need assistance. I've gone to all of our state level conventions and a few of the national conventions. This is a way to keep connected to the service way of life, the good ole days of the past. Well stay healty and hope to read some of your memories from the past days of the USS Chicago, lord knows that I've got alot of them that I could talk about for days or even maybe get to one of these Chicago reunions some time in the future. So until then, I Thank you for what you have done, to make our Country strong and for the Freedom that we have to live in our great home of the USA!

For God and Country,
BT2 Alvin R. Diaz
