Did you know?
The Department of Veterans Affairs established a service-connection for Vietnam veterans suffering from Parkinson's disease, ischemic heart disease (IHD) and B-cell leukemias such as hairy-cell leukemia. These illnesses are now considered "presumed" illnesses. This "presumption" simplifies and speeds up the application process for VA benefits. It is important to note that this new policy will not go into effect until sometime in 2010. At which point affected veterans will be urged to submit new disability claims.

I worked this area many times during my time at Bearcat. We provided MP escort for military supply vehicles in and out of the plantation. We had heard that the Frenchman was paying off the VC and in fact we raided his office which was in small village and within it was food partially consumed from what we believe was a way station for VC transients.

I started out in the field but was made chief company clerk by E company Captain Norman Dent. I have plenty of materials from the 9th Division including a lot of slides, photos and super 8 films that I took, a lot of which was done at Rach Kien. I ended up having to identify the KIA from our company from the Plain of Reeds battle, and ended up looking an many that were not ours but could not be immediately identified. When Bernie Rosales was ambushed in the back, I declined to do so again. Jerry LaFleur was best buddies with Charles T. Snyder, who ended up being the company clerk for Headquarters company, I believe.
I remember so many of the men I met there, and some of the women, such as Red Cross "donut dolly" Marilyn Schmokel (sp) from Beaverton, Oregon.

I was with HHC from May 67 to May 68, and I was with the recovery team that retrived the Lost Squad in Sept 67. I went on lot's of Operations in Nam, and the 39th went to Dong Tam durring the Tet. I spent time out at Fells and Moore.
