Comments: I was honored by seeing the Corps Friday Evening Retreat in 1992 when they commemorated the men who had fought at Guadalcanal. There were several hundred of them and I was simply awestruck being in the presence of these men. The work they did taking the fight to the Japanese made our puny efforts as Marines in Vietnam insignificant by comparison.

You Guadalcanal veterans, veterans of the "Old Guard" are without peer true heroes. It is an honor to be a part of your Corps.

Comments: My father was an officer in the 11th (Archie Dean Swift; 1st bat on Samoa, Guadalcanal, 2nd bat Guadalcanal, Cape Gloucester and Talesea, 8th batallion on Okinawa) and I am currently writing a family history including his service. He said little about WWII while he was alive, and that usually only to others who had served in combat. I deeply appreciate what you have done in preserving the day to day experiences of the men of the 11th.

My father in law Bill Holman was a Marine at Guadalcanal and we are very blessed to have him still with us here nearby enjoying his 92nd year of life.
Just a sincere and respectful note to thank you for your service to our country, your Marine Corps, and in honor of all those that didnt make it back our condolences.
