I hope this is an appropriate place to get he word out. I'm one in a group of 5 grandmas (Pilgrim Lutheran Brethren Church, Mentor, OH) who are currently involved in several mission group projects. We send our items through Medical Supplies for Christ (non-profit status in Ohio), founded by a married couple, both nurses in our church after returning from a medical mission to Haiti several years ago. One project is supplying Barbies to little girls in 3rd-4th world countries like: Honduras, Haiti, Philippines & the Ukraine, a nicely dressed Barbie, often made-over. We seek new or gently played with Barbies - even nudies. I wash them, re-do their hair and dress them in a nice conservative dress (at least knee-length, no bare midriffs, bare shoulders or mini skirts/dresses) and then send them off to a new home. We also seek barbie's friends, gently played with clothes or someone who would like to volunteer to make some nice dresses. Of course the main focus of Medical Supplies for Christ is the meds, supplies & equipment. But when space is available, a toy, barbie, or small knitted/crocheted item is included. When a team goes abroad, suitcases full of med. supplies, school supplies, candy and toys are taken with. When a missionary is home on furlough, they can choose what they want and need to take back with them. Church denomination or affiliation doesn't matter as long as it is Christ centered. The religious affiliation or lack of it, of the child is also unimportant. Having been on a couple of short-term missions personally to Honduras, I know first hand the poverty these folks try to survive in. Most of the children are lucky to get one meal per day and have NEVER had a toy of their own. For little boys, we send/take beanies, Holy Bears, legos, etc. Can you help?
