Comments: I keep seeing the comments about Japanese toothpaste not having fluoride... YES IT DOES! I even asked my wife (who is Japanese), and she confirmed it!

Hi Donguri. Thanks for the feedback. I believe your wife is correct about Japanese toothpastes containing flouride. Brands like: PC Clinica, Clear Clean, Gum, Aquafresh all have flouride in them. However, I've also been reading that levels in Japan are lower than elsewhere due to regulation. I have also read that tap water in Japan does not contain any flouride.

Thus, rather than pay higher prices for imported toothpaste at places like: Sony Plaza, Kinokuniya, American Pharmacy, etc., it's probably still a good idea to tell people to bring toothpaste from back home.

Comments: Hi Elliot, Firstly thanks for making such a great site, it was really informative and has definately made me very keen on participating in JET.

Unfortunately i'm still 3 years away from completing uni, do you think it's too early to start researching into it, because the JET ALT program might change?

Also do you have an email I can write to for further questions?

thanks mate

Comments: Hi, I love your website, it is very helpful. I was just in Japan for a week with a group of graduate students and everybody absolutely loved it. Japan is a special place. I liked it so much that I am thinking about the JET program. Do you have any recommendations in terms of selecting cities ? I have been told that when applying, one should apply for the 'sister' city first. Do you have any suggestions ?

Best,

Goran

As far as selecting cities goes, one thing to definitely keep in mind is that most JET applicants will probably try to stick to what they know by putting down the big cities first (ie: Tokyo, Osaka, or Kobe).

If you can, do a little research and think about exploring other areas of Japan that you might like. Putting down a sister city could also help provided it is not one of the aforementioned cities. Hope this helps -- and good luck!

Comments: I stumbled upon your site while looking for JET information. I plan on applying in 2009. What I read has been very helpful but if you don't mind, can you email me and allow me to ask you some basic questions about getting started with a language program and how to prepare way in advance. Thank you very much.

Thanks for writing Paul. Provided the questions aren't too personal, please feel free to post them here as they may help other potential candidates.
