Anyone know Walter T. Piotti? He served on the DD797 from Feb 59 to July 60 as ENGINEERING OFFICER? Writing a modern Navy book. Biographer: P.A. Spayd of Schiffer Publishing. Admiral Piotti lives nearby, working on his bio.

Hay shipmate's, I was checking out this web sight and saw there were folks from the ships first cruise. I was onboard from 80-82. I was in A gang and Oil king. I have lost track of everybody. I went in the army for 9 yrs and went back to navy to retire out in 01. I saw the "old girl" comming in to port at San Daigo while was with the assult unit ACU-1. I sure miss the time we were onboard. I am looking for the west pack and shell back pictures I have, if I find them I will post them for all to see. Hope to talk to some of you soon!!!

I have the 1984 Cruise Book. If anybody needs to see it and maybe copy pictures from it, etc...just email me. I was thinking of donating it to the Cushing Assoc since I rarely look at it. I am getting prepared for my third deployment to the MiddleEast; my second time with the army and this time I will be going as an E7. Out.

I was stationed at NSGA Yokosuka Japan. There was a direct support shop there. I was in a shore billet, but after driving my LPO, CPO, and DIVO nuts was allowed to go on the USS Cushing (DD-985)in a CTO trainee spot from the end of May to the beginning of June 2000 (I'd have to look in my service record for exact dates). I really did enjoy my short time at sea aboard the USS Cushing, I received a positive counsling and even worked on some quals. I got to go to Hong Kong and after liberty ashore came back to the ship tired and had a few too many, and fell down the ladderwell into berthing. I dented my shin something fierce, I still have the dent and the nasty scar so everytime I look at my shin I'll always remember the Cushing. At the end of the short cruise, I think 17 days or less, I received an "Honorary Destroyerman Certificate". I know I didn't serve a tour or years on the Cushing, but my entire four years in the Navy she was the only ship I went out on. I'll never forget it.
