My dad was an old railroader, with 38 years of service with Southern Ry., and then NS Ry. In 1957 we rode the train from Asheville to Columbia and then from Columbia to Jacksonville, and caught the Silver Meteor in Jax to Miami. I don't remember a whole lot of the trip, being only 6, but I remember the E units and the red and silver livery, and the speed as we streaked through the Florida scrub and by the white sands of the Florida coast. Thank you for this page. It brought back some sweet memories.

My dad worked for the Seaboard and later the combination . He joked that his name for the combined railroads was Atlantic Seaboard System (ASS). We took many wonderful rides over the years. Even Saturday afternoons from Penn Station in NYC to Philadelphia and then back. He started sometime in 1930's in Tampa, then Miami, Richmond and finally headquarters at Rockefeller Center in NYC. I've still got a few logo pieces from from the dining car food service. Train travel did not get any better than the Seaboard.

I love your description of the Seaboard streamliners. I was born in 1951 to a railroading family, during the fading glory years of railroading. My dad was a telegrapher on the Asheville division of the Southern Railway, and I was able to ride the last scheduled steam train from Marion to Asheville in the early '50's. My greatest memory was riding from Jacksonville to Miami aboard the Silver Meteor, with the red and silver E type engines. I remember the speed most of all. It was 1957, and I was 6. I will remember this all my life, an experience few have had. Thanks for your page, it brought back some memories!

My grandfather, Monte "Moose" Launt worked for the Atlantic and Seaboard as an engineer for many yers. I think he had worked for the railroad for 50 years when he retired in the late 70's. He drove Lakeland, FL to Sanford, FL for a time when I was little, and many other routes. I was to small to remember a lot of it. I have very fond memories of riding the train with him.

I am a longtime Vintage Paper Dealer who is phasing out after 30 years of selling to museums, companies, websites and private collectors on almost any subject you can think of.
I have a large collection of paper relating to Seaboard Railway and other Atlantic Lines ..mostly articles and ads from all publications and eras. I would be happy to send you a few items to look over before deciding to purchase..I have always done business in this manner and it has worked out for everyone...I save writing detailed lists and you get to view the actual material before you decide to purchase. {Prices are all under ten dollars... I also offer a lot price should you keep it all.} I currently deal with many companies, museums, libraries and private collectors, on hundreds of diverse subjects , who collect for their archives sell in Museum Stores and / or frame for display in their workplace,
Please contact me even if you are not interested so I can pass this on to the next person on my list.
