Comments: "Meeting the Lone Ranger"

I met Clayton Moore, The Lone Ranger.as a young boy growing up in La Crescenta, CA. I would watch my favorite shows. Most important was "The Lone Ranger."

I wanted to be just like my hero. To go and help people, thwart bad and do justice. I would watch each episode. I even made my own mask and ride my bicycle pretending to be on Silver. My parents and I know the neighbors must have thought I was nuts. Haha...Then one day my parents told me The Lone Ranger would be making a special appearance. Would I like to go? Wow...I was so excited. So off we went to see Clayton Moore, The Lone Ranger.

So we traveled to Glendale, CA. All I can remember is the place was packed with families...all excited and talking. My brothers and I were waiting and then the annoucement "Ladies and Gentleman, boys and girls....The Lone Ranger."

A loud roar and cheers were shouted out. I try to see over the other kids, straining to catch a glimpse...then my hero rode in on the most beautiful white horse, Silver...rearing up and shouting out..."Hi-Yo Silver, Away!"

I was in awe. He dismounted and walked right up to us, greeting the fans and shaking my hand. I was speechless..an awsome man who cared about people. He smiled at me, shook my hand and asked my name...I was speachless...later I received a signed photo, which I have to this day.

As we left, I vowed one day be a ranger too. I never became a police officer, but I never forgot the lessions I learned from watching The Lone Ranger. Honesty, fairness and a passion to help others.

Later in life I met him shortly before he passed away. He exhibited the same great smile and shook my hand. I told him I had met him many years prior when I was a boy. He smiled as I told him how he was 'my hero'... I was again the young boy even for a few moments....he was and will always be my hero; Kemosabe, faithful friend, The Lone Ranger.
thank you Clayton Moore.

Comments: My father took me to see "The Lone Ranger and Tonto" in early 1950s. I was around 6 years old and still remember how excited I was to see my child hood idol. This was when we lived in Indianapolis Ind. Wish we had more reruns of his shows.

Comments: Clayton and I had dinner several times in Dallas and Fort Worth when he came in for appearances. I became "his nephew" and fought to get his mask back. He was on my radio show 8 times - Jay once.
