Comments: The large horizontal sundial at the Sciencecenter in Ithaca has inspired me to somehow install one in my garden -- basically a cement and native stone patio that has the side benefit of being an ~ 10' x 10' area of weed-free xeriscaping. Wish me luck! I'm hoping a sundial will give my nieces an experience of the wonder created when human intelligence meshes with the natural world. Advice welcome. I have downloaded the free version of Shadows and appreciate the how-to offered in this site.

Comments: I enjoyed Your page it is great. I have been studying sundials and have built two. I graphed out a horizontal and a vertical dial. I corrected both for longitude and nomon width. The horizontal would show clock time with a slight adjustment every ten days. The vertical was correct too e.o.t.
I am planning to create others. How can i know the nomon for a polar dial.

Response: Please check out the Polar Sundial page at The Sundial Primer. You will find information about the gnomon there.

Comments: I found out about your sundials from someone on a paper model forum site.

Just completed the Equitorial Ring Sundial with some children. It was easy enough to put together. We took it outside and it worked great. I had to explain about how we needed to adjust the time for our longitude and for Daylight Savings Time. They really enjoyed the experience and it got them to thinking about how the Sun and the Earth relate to each other and how latitude and longitude are used to fix points on the surface of a sphere. Thanks for this great resource.
