Hello dear Maerwyn, have just landed on your site, and reading the biog. and seeing the photos has brought back such wonderful memories of a dear lady. I am now in Brasil, still singing and teaching. Itīs great to see you are now with your own family. May the memories never leave me of the wonderful moments spent with you and Rita in Sydney. Keep well, and congratulations on the site, and the tribute!! In her field, Rita was one of the best thereīll ever be! Alan Hendrie.

As a young girl in Tydraw,Abernant, I remember Rita coming over to visit us and chatting to my mother Doreen and I. We always enjoyed listening to her singing, when she visited her husbands parents house.( I only ever knew him as 'Jacky' not John,) and I remember very well when Mairwen was born. Rita was a lovely warm, very 'down to earth' person and my mother still talks about her fondly.

I am the luckiest man alive! I was working at The Marlowe Theatre in Canterbury as Chief Electrician when my application to join the staff at The Royal Opera House was accepted. The year was 1969 and ROH was mounting a new production of "Les Troyens" by Hector Berlioz. I was Board Operator (lighting). After a year I moved to the London Coliseum to work for The English National Opera (ENO) where they were mounting a new Ring Cycle to be conducted by Reginald Goodall. I looked on in amazement at the development of this work under Mr Goodall's musical direction. My greatest thrill was to witness the sitzprobe rehearsals in front of the tabs. Everyone who was there was stunned by Rita Hunter's performances, so much so that a lot of us watched from the wings every night. Later ENO embarked on a provincial tour and I managed to befriend John and Rita and the young Mairwen. John used to refer to his beloved wife as "Our Reet" and I was surprised that such talented people could be so friendly. Rita was a delight in every way and she was loved and respected by all who worked with her. Her vocal talents have not been matched in my lifetime and, I suspect, never will. I Googled this site having spent the day recalling those wonderful days and am gladdened that it is so beautiful. Please accept my thanks for your creation of a perfect tribute to "Our Reet".
