Animal Totem : Salmon

Astrological Sun sign : Leo

The month from 22 July to 21 August is the period when the Sun is at its hottest in the Northern hemisphere and ripens the fruit of the Earth. It is a time when traditionally, man pauses from his labours to bask in the sunshine and to refresh himself before the work of harvesting which is to come. It is the time when the whole of Nature appears to be opening up to the Sun and bringing forth its fruit in abundance.

The Ripening Time was thus regarded as a time of openness and warmth and these qualities are reflected in those people whose birthdays occur at this time.

Halfway through the month occurred a Fire festival of the old religion of Nothern Europe which was called Lammas, and by the Celts, Lughnsadh. It was held on 11 August and in Britain was sometimes called the ~Feast of the First Fruits~ It marked the first cut of harvest corn while summer was still in full swing and was the season of fairs. It recognised that after the Summer Solstice the Sun had begun to wane and its powers was declining.

Although it was a joyful, happy time it served also as a reminder that all is not as it might appear. For though the Sun was shining and the days were hot, the Circle was beginning to dip towards the dark and the days were shortening in preparation for the autumn and the approach of winter.

It was, then, a festival of remembrance – a reminder that things are not always as they may appear, and that nothing in the physical world is permanent. And it was a time for reflection – a reminder of what we are now and what we hope to become.

Influencing Wind : The South Wind

Influencing Direction : South

The warm south winds bring a flow of vital energies brings an emphasis in the Ripening Time on the needs to trust ones feelings and intuitions during the pain of change which will be experienced during the process of maturing.

Heading The Long Days Time
Comments:

Animal Totem : Woodpecker

Astrological Sun sign : Cancer

The Long Days Time is the first of the three cycles of the summer season and begins at the Summer Solstice when Nature starts to slow its pace and to grow toward the maturity of bearing fruit. The Long Days Time heralds the fulfilment of the promise of the Spring Season, which is the abundance that results from a firm rooting in the Earth.

The Summer Solstice which marks the beginning of the Long Days Time, is the very height of the year when the days are longest and the nights, the shortest. It is a time of delight in the great outdoors; a time when the rich green vegetation is lush and comforting beneath the feet, and when the air is filled with the intoxicating fragrance of flowers.

It can be compared with the time in life when youth reaches adulthood and the period of testing and maturing. People whose birthdays are in the Long Days Time have the potential for bearing much fruit and to grow into the maturity which comes from gaining wisdom through experience and responsibility.

The Long Days Time can also be compared with midday when the Sun reaches its zenith and gives its brightest light and maximum warmth. It is a time too, of hope and expectation for the long, hot days of summer that still lie ahead, and for the reward of all one’s efforts. So it was than in ancient times the Summer Solstice was the Festival of Expectation.

Nature is busy nurturing and protecting all that has been born as the Sun moves to its zenith to herald in the splendour of summer and the joy of alive-ness that the radiance of the Sun brings and which becomes evident everywhere.

Comments: Hello Crystal and please accept my apologies for the delay in responding to your post.

If you have been following along posts in my (mermaid) message board then you will see how incredibly busy life has been with the resulting lack of time online.

Of course you may start a string in the mermaid message board... at least Wolfsmoon may see it there. I do know her own now is also incredibly busy and has been for a few years now. This was one of the reasons why her own message bard was closed.

Again, my apologies for the delay in responding to you and hope that you call by and see this message {smile}

kind regards

Comments: Hey There Seawolf,

Thanks, I appreciate that. I haven't heard from her, so I guess she is busy. Do you think I can start a post in Mermaid's Forum about Power Animals?
