Great site Jeff. Just a little note on the passing of Jack E. Lee. The greatest harness announcer ever. RIP Jack you have been missed.

Jeff, Great Site.
I also graduated East Meadow H.S. 1973.
I also chased down bad guys in Broward County, Florida. I did my time and got out in 2000.
My mom Gladys Decker worked for RR as a book-keeper not bookie from the early 60's long after MSGC took control. My mom since she cut the checks and paid the bills knew everybody. The kids of the parents who worked at track had a great time as well. I remember RR was polishing up its' image at one point, mid to late 60's. During the racing season several Saturdays were picked and open to the public for tours of the track and stables. The Great Family Entertainment Center. I used to work those events and they paid extremely well for the time. I also can recall later on when the track was converted for one week-end event of motocross style dirt bike racing. RR for the employees used put on great picnics at Salisbury Park. I wish I had found this site sooner, mom had passed May/07. She would have loved it.
I just remembered going to RR at night and finding East Meadow H.S. teachers moonlighting at the windows. I thought that was great. One big family.
Jeff, thanks for memory jaring.

Great memories of going to the track with my parents and getting to make that one bet, usually to show. I guess if you took your kids to the track these days you would be looked at as a bad parent.

I moved to Westbury in 1957. Once in high school it was impossible not to know Roosevelt Raceway. Having the gambling gene in my DNA helped with that. As most I fell in love with the raceway the first time I went. It got to where I knew every horse on the grounds and would find myself humming the tunes of Herb Albert all day in school anticipating a night at the trotters. In short order I met Earl and Jimmy Cruise and learned their father was one of the stars of the sport. Went to work for "partner" and eventually took 3 horses out to California with Junior in 1975.
Partner was a legend and the finest gentleman you could meet. "No foolin".
So many great memories from "Rosey" but one of the best was watching "Skirl"
(our nickname for Earl) wire the field in the Challenge cup with Kash Minbar in
at the time, world record time. Can't forget to mention all the great times we shared there with our friend "Augie" who owned the great Magician. We sadly and prematurely lost Billy in 2004 but he's up there with Partner and all the greats of the sport who loved Rosey as much as we all did. Like 9/11 WE WILL NEVER FORGET!
