I am a writer for the Bethlehem Press, Bethlehem, PA, and I am doing an article for our paper about softball in the city. This came about because a colleague remarked that he had once pitched fast pitch softball. We have a league with two divisions here, and I've always known it was a very big thing. But not a high-profile thing--although in Bethlehem that is about to change.
I need to quote locals above all, and maybe exclusively. But I would love to have some background about the differences (sociologically) between fast-pitch and soft-pitch. Who plays what? Which game is regarded as tougher? Do players of the two games socialize, or are they anathema to each other?

I have an old yellowed newspaper clipping which claims that there was an 8-team Major Softball League, pre-1975, with teams in STL (Browns), PHA (Patriots), MTL (Royals), NO (Pelicans), TOR (Athletics) plus Mobile (Gulls), Pennsylvania (Rifles) and Charlotte (Hornets). Does anybody know anything about this?

HI, Steve. I check your website out endlessly. Your info about my being on the national team of the 1960s has gotten me into the Ohio ASA HOF (March, 2009) and the Kentucky Softball HOF & Honor (October, 2009). I played with 31 teammates who are members of the Norwood Sorrento's Greater Cincinnati Softball Hall of Fame. I further had the great honor to play for ASA HOFer Al Brausch and and with ASA HOFers Myron Reinhardt, Hal Wiggins, and Raymond Whitey Brown. A few months ago we had a gathering of all of all of the great Northern KY players of the late 1950s and early 1960s. What a reunion! How lucky can a softball player get?
