Comments: About four years ago I had a rash all over my body; took 20 ultraviolet treatments to clear it. I was using yellow food coloring, buying puddings and poultry powder for soups. Had to change 2-3 medicines due to yellow dye. Recently I needed an antibiotic for a sinus infection; discovered that Clindamycin and Doxycillin have yellow dye. I have to check labels on everything. At 82 I hope to live long enough to see this vicious dye removed from food and medicine. Thank you for your good work.

Comments: Thank you very much. I am experiencing something that almost parallel's your story.

I am currently suffering from chronic hives and have been for 3 months. This has been a reall horrible experience. I have been on all sorts of medication to supress the hives but they always came back. I also kept a food log and I noticed that when i took my vitamins, ate margarine, instant noodles, icecream and certain baked goods...i broke out in hives. Especially the vitamins. But those items seemed so random and not related in anyway. Now I am starting to suspect it might be Tartrazine! Thank you so much, I am going to avoid this chemical and see what happens.

Comments: Just a quick note, any person allergic to penicillin should include themselves in the allergic to yellow #5 and #6 group. Just like aspirin. Oddly I just read about a link to celiac and these FD&C yellows as well. I went through a very stressful period of time watching my grandmother die from cancer and my body produced the itchy watery blisters associated with celiac that did not go away for a year until I removed gluten from my diet. Headaches, constipation and mood swings also disappeared. Another place to be weary of is fast food restaurants. Breakfast sandwich's sometimes come with fake eggs. Well some of those fake eggs have yellow #5 & #6 in them, the cook was nice enough to read the carton the eggs were poured from and found it for me after I got blisters. This and that fake cheese on nachos. Good luck to everyone out there especially to those who've been laughed at & told they're crazy or stupid. This allergy is very real.

Comments: In 1985 I was diagnosed with severe depression. I was prescribed the anti-depressant Norpramin (desipramine HCL). Within 72 hours I came down with rashes ALL OVER MY BODY. I immediately went off that anti-depressant, even tho it was WORKING. For the next 24 years I have gone on an odyssey to find a drug that would work for me. I found NONE. Now, 2009, I have a doctor prescribing me Norpramin once again, stating the reason I was allergic was NOT the Norpramin but the tartrazine dye! 24 YEARS OF ATTEMPTED TREATMENT, DOWN THE DRAIN! I don't know if Norpramin will work NOW (with my advanced age, 52) but I guess I'll see.
