It is well-known that the French scribes of yore in Louisiana Francoized many German names. e.g. ZWEIG became LABRANCHE, STEIGER became ESTAIRE, BUERCKLE changed into PERCLE, and that old standby ACHTZIGER is now QUATREVINGT.
