To say I was surprised to stumble upon your website would be the understatment of the century.
Like yourself, I too was an apprentice comp at the GCP. I started in August 1960 and was put to work learning the case dissing type on the frame behind Bill Hobbs' desk. I look back on those years with such fondness, though I'd never have predicted that at the time.
Some of the names I remember were: Stan Keep, Fred Gibson, Jim Watts, John Smeeton, Eddie Cook, Roy Turner, Howard Kelt, Barry Abraham, Frank Simpson, Alf Grummit, Owen Brown, Frank Mumford, Alf Hills, all from the comp room. Then from the press room: Laurie Griggs, Jolly Jack, Dennis Rodrigues, Ray Worbey, plus there's lots of names I can't remember.
Anyway, I was there for almost six years before I moved on - a couple of years before you started there.
Thank you for putting this web page up, you brought back so many happy memories.

Hello I’m Dan Murphy a third year student of Portsmouth University. I am currently working on my dissertation with the title of ‘How has E-Commerce/E-Business affected the Graphics Industry?’

I am currently writing up the chapter on the history of the traditional printing/graphics industry, and how it was changed by the introduction of the Internet and e-commerce.
