Comments: I have watched over the years how the strip mining was raping our land. Over those years, it seems that mountain top removal has grown in massive proportions. I am majoring in Environmental Science at the University of Michigan and I plan on moving down to the mountains and helping in fighting this damaging and tragic practice that lines the fat cats pockets and leaves disaster behind. I really am surprised at some of the posters on here that actually see nothing wrong with mountain top removal and whine about what we would do without the utilities that coal creates. Well I could tell you my ancestor's have lived in the mountains for over 300 years and we did just fine. My life is not dependent on mountain top removal and either is anyone else's for that matter. This is a money making venture for big coal companies such as Massey Energy and as long as they are making big bucks with it, they could care less about anyone else or the harm they are doing. People in Appalachia that defend strip mining are just showing how ignorant they are to what is really important. Protecting the land that our ancestor's settled on and enjoyed the benefit's from. The mountain people have always been taken advantage of, when it came to these big coal companies. They bought their land for peanuts. It is a dire shame.
