HALO in Cicero, IL
Comments:
Greetings,
My name is JC Bear. I'm writing on behalf of H.A.L.O. at Morton
College. First let me start off by saying how excited I am to know that
there's other clubs with somewhat the same goals, my congratulations to
you and your members. Hopefully we can become pen pals in the days to
come.
Let me tell you a little bit about ourselves. This is the first
semester
that HALO was started at my college, primarily because the club before
it the "Hispanic Heritage club" failed. When our current co-advisor
found out she was thrilled to start to start a club like yours and
named
it, as yours "HALO" which the name speaks for itself,
after club weak there was about 60 interested in joining and at the
first meeting we had about 30 persons present, we do have over 100 on
our mailing list.
Morton college is a primary Hispanic Community college we are located
in
the Town of Cicero, Il. only minutes away from Chicago. Were in the
midst of writing a constitution for the club and I was searching the
internet for clubs as this one, I came across yours, and decided to
write and ask for a few pointers regarding on how to build a club such
as HALO. I ask of you if there's any information that you would like
share with a baby HALO please do. Were off to a good start and have had
Mariachi and Trio's play at our school, with a free food event named
"Taste of HALO" were working with several public schools in the area on
volunteering projects. "el Dia de los Muertos" is also being recognized
by our club. On Oct. 31st HALO is having the Honorable Consulate
General
of Mexico, in Chicago as a guest speaker for one of our open forums,
the
reason I'm saying these things is so that you know we are real and
hopefully both clubs can share information on special Hispanic days,
and
maybe your club can be a mentor to ours.
Please do respond and let me know of your opinions.
Respectfully,
Juan Carlos Bear
President of H.A.L.O.
