I am a white female. I have been with my boyfriend for a few months now. He is black. When we started this relationship we were not thinking about what we would deal with. We soon found out that it would be a big burden on our lives. My mom always says she is having a hard time dealing with it and recently said that she realized that she is prejudice. I could not believe this and it causes my boyfriend to not want to come to my mom's house, understandably. I just have a hard time figuring out why it is such a problem. I want to marry this man and have kids with him but I feel like my family will disown me. I always believed that color was not important what is important is being in a healthy relationship. I trust and respect him and he shows the same to me. How can i get my family to see in him the great things that i see? if anyone would like to talk to me or give advice i would greatly appreciate it.

This is an excellent web site. I am black and my husband is white, 16 years my senior. We've been together for 13 years and have 2 beautiful and smart children, ages 12 and 6. We get the occasional stare every now and then but it's better to ignore the ignorant. My eldest child (my son) has just very recently ran across racism at school for the first time and he has made me very proud on the way it was handled. He was upset at first, but told the the kids bothering him that that type of thinking is why the human race is so far behind and that they better wake up and smell reality. My and my husbands feelings on how everyone thinks on us being together is tha we really don't give a shit what others think. We are a happy and loving family and we got together because we have a lot in common and really enjoy each other's presence. So for all those catching hell out there from the assholes of society, hang in there and leave it in the hands of God. Love will conquer all and hate, closed-mindedness, and evil ignorance will surely fail.
