Comments: I camped there as a kid in the 70's after it was a private camp. Have original pamphlet for selling lots, an still own a lot. Was there July 12 '09 Is still beautiful but overgrown in some areas. Filed in front of tower is a forrest!

Comments: I last attended summer camp at Irondale 45 years ago and remember it fondly. I have a special affection for this location because my father was born and raised in Irondale and told me stories of watching scouts come in by train each year and march from the train station to the camp. I am still active in scouts and attend summer camp at Camp Chawanakee on Shaver Lake between Yosemite and Sequoia National parks. Since I will be visiting Irondale to introduce my son to some of his heritage this summer, I found your website while doing research. Well done!!

Comments: thanks for having this website on Irondale scout camp. I hope that you get as much information as you can from former camp staff members and campers. Thanks for investing your time to write about this camp.

Comments: Please keep me posted on your book, I would love to read it. I am an active Scouter today, and I credit my motivation to Scouting from my summers as a boy at Camp Irondale. I first attended at the age of 3 - my father was a Scoutmaster, and our family spent our summers in the family cabins there. I have many more fond memories of summers at Camp Irondale as a Scout. I attended summer camp the last year of Camp Irondale in 1965. I was featured on the local TV news as part of a feature about the closing of the camp. And I still remember the campfire songs about Camp Irondale by heart. Some of my most favorite traditions were the Order of the Arrow tapouts done from the tower, and the summer family nights with the turtle races. Each troop would race a turtle they had groomed throughout the past year for the grand prize, which was a watermelon. And I have so many other fond memories as well. Good luck on your book, I would love to see a copy!
