Comments: My mother was a Philpot and her Philpot relatives are descendents of County Cork Ireland. I would like to locate Philpots in County Cork with given names of John, Thomas, William as I met them about 12 yrs. ago when they visited a family reunion.

Comments: Hey Rich, Just came across the site--good job! My line starts out same as Rich's for a couple of generations then branches off. My line is as follows: James Philpot (ca. 1740 Ireland-1826 TN)>Richard Philpot (Ca.1775 VA-ca.1845 MS.>William Philpot (1798 VA.-1844 GA.)>Allen Philpot (1822 TN.-1914 GA)>Thomas Philpot(1860 GA-1926 GA)>James L. Philpot(1888 GA-1972 GA)>Jewell Philpot Lester(1917 GA)>William L. Lester (1940 GA). My Philpot line came to Carroll (Now Haralson) County, Ga. in 1827 from McMinn Co.,TN. with several members of the York family led by Capt. William York, a Revolutionary War veteran. Have been to Ireland trying to locate the ancestral home there. Unable to prove anything in black and white, but from conversations and correspondence with several Philpot/Philpott families there I believe that James most likely was a member of the family that resided in County Cork at that time, primarily in the Newmarket and Kanturk area. There is still today remnants of a Philpot Castle (officially known as Dromagh Castle) near Kanturk. Would like to hear from and exchange notes with anyone interested.
