I am writing to you because I am fascinated by the country of Uruguay and by the city of Montevideo. I have never been to Uruguay. I have never even been to South America! However, I have just applied for a job with the UN in Brazil, and I hope to visit Uruguay if I get that job. I only know about Uruguay from writers, such as Felisberto Hernandez. The Argentine writer Jorge Luis Borges mentions Montevideo in many of his stories and says that it has the atmosphere which Buenos Aires had a century ago. I think he meant that Montevideo was more friendly than Buenos Aires. I have a very good friend from Argentina, but I've never written to anybody from Uruguay before! I've never even met a Uruguayan!
