I worked with Ralph and Beggy Barker at North St Mary's Roller Skating rink, in San Antonio, from 1953 until they left the rink sometime, if my memory serves me correctly, in the early 60's. I was the rink organist during that period of time and played for many skating competitions as well as regular skating sessions during the week. North St Mary's featured live Hammond organ music every night of the week except Monday, when the rink was closed for private parties. The rink closed it's doors in 1968 after 36 years of continous operation. Ralph and Peggy always had a great following with young and old alike and were highly regarded as being excellent teachers. The skating world lost a good friend when he passed on to that big rink in the sky. Thanks for placing his picture and writeup on your web page. Best of luck to all of you and keep on skating.
