We have come across the shortened version of our name, but only in the US. Our family tree ends up in Thorin, Germany, before that East Germany, and before that again, Preussia. Our forefather left for Copenhagen in the 1750's to study art, but succumbed to the Plauge, together with his wife shortly thereafter. Their only son lived on to become the family founder.
