Strange claim. If the AMC White Mtn Guide is any indication, they've been popular since the mid 19th century. We started hiking there in 1964, did all the 4,000 footers in 1967 and there musta been hundreds and hundreds of folks who had done that years earlier. I LIKE the web site. Keep it up.
