Hunting Tips and Facts:
  1. The World Record typical turkey wieghed 30 pounds, had a 13 inch beard, and 2 1/4" spurs, scoring 104. This bird also has the World Record spurs and is the 5th heaviest bird. It was killed in Kentucky.
  2. The heaviest turkey ever killed weighed 35.8 pounds. It was harvested in Iowa.
  3. The longest spur on a turkey was 2.25" long. Only 12 Eastern turkeys have ever been reported as having 2" or longer spurs.
  4. Of the top 20 non typical eastern turkeys killed, 9 came from the state of Missouri, more than twice that of any other state.
  5. The World Record beard for a turkey was 18.24" long. It was harvested in Virginia.
  6. In the early 1930s the wild turkey was on the verge of extinction. But today, thanks to hunters and wildlife restoration programs, the game bird is abundant and thriving in its homeland.
  7. Between 5,000 and 6,000 feathers cover the body of an adult turkey in patterns called feather tracts.
  8. Turkeys can run at speeds up to 25 mph, and they can fly up to 55 mph.
